Texas District Hold Membership in Heterodox Mission Association

Check on the Texas District and discover that it, as a district, holds membership in Willow Creek Association -- as do Trinity, Houston (mother church there); Salem, Tomball (no big surprise) and Saint Paul, Fort Worth.

Concordia, San Antonio was not on the list.

The Willow Creek Association is a Reformed, law-oriented organization that is headed by Bill Hybels, pastor of Willow Creek Community Church. He believes that a church with a cross in or on it hinders people from coming. Following is a description of their members:

In short, they proactively organize around the life-transformation process outlined in the Great Commission and Acts chapter 2. The goal of the Willow Creek Association is to provide the kind of leadership and encouragement these pioneering churches need to prevail in their efforts. . . . If your church has a passion for reaching lost people, then we invite you to join this exciting movement of outreach-oriented churches in the Willow Creek Association

Here is some more of their propaganda from their "Mission" page:

What WCA churches have in common is a commitment to historic, biblical teachings of the Christian faith and a vision for building biblically functioning communities that reach and disciple unchurched people – the vision Christ had for the church as stated in the Great Commission and lived out in Acts chapter 2.

We strive to equip churches to become increasingly effective in the following areas:

Reaching lost people for Christ by providing relevant, Scriptural teaching, and by prioritizing them in our ministry plans, our budgets, and in our personal lives.

Facilitating the formation of Christ's character in all the believers who attend.

Becoming communities of servants stewarding God-given spiritual gifts, ministry passions, and personal styles.

Better connecting people in authentic relationships with small groups of people for care, accountability, growth, and learning.

Becoming communities where people share their lives, knowledge, and resources to meet needs and build the church.

The Texas District is not the only LCMS District to hold membership in Willow Creek Association. But that is no excuse. Was this voted on at convention?
