Speaker: Rev. Jack M. Cascione, LCMS, Redeemer Lutheran Church St. Clair
Shores MI
Author of “Reclaiming the Gospel in the LCMS” (Sent to every 1998 LCMS
Convention delegate to keep the three Creeds in LCMS worship services.
We regret that former California Congressman William Dannemeyer, an active LCMS layman, was unable to be present as planned to speak and to introduce Pr. Cascione. Mrs. Dannemeyer was admitted to the hospital on Wednesday because of a reoccurance of cancer symptoms. The congressman sent his regrets.
There were 110 present to hear Pr. Cascione's presentation. Mr. Jim Runzheimer introduced Cascione and laid out the reasons why Pr. Cascione was invited to the area to speak. Mr. Ralph Tate and Mr. Joel Green were very helpful in making arrangements.
District Vice President David Joeckel attended and explained why he and the District President and other VPs could not answer on paper some simple questions submitted by Mr. Runzheimer. His main concern was that some Texas District figures that were shown from the 1999 Lutheran Annual were incorrect. Where is the concern for the Gospel? That is what this meeting was all about.
Mrs. Bobbi Baker and Mrs. Jane Rossi were the main arrangers in the Alamo city. About 75 people attended, some from as far away as California and Arkansas. Many came from Austin, Uvalde and Kerrville.
District Vice President James Lindermann attended and also tried to explain why the Runzheimer letter was not answered. The questions were too complicated for a simple yes or no answer. He was also concerned about the mission figures and the number of staff listed from the Annual.
Guests numbered 115 at the Houston meeting. Don Kaiser, Paul Stringer and John Kenward worked hard to make arrangements here.
District Vice President Donald Black stated his reason for not answering the questions in the Runzheimer letter.
Pastor Cascione's book was given free to attendees at the Houston area event.
Admittance was free to these presentations and donations were generous enough to cover the costs of travel, lodging, postage and printing.
