As usual, the Texas District sent a news person to cover the Synodical Convention in St. Louis. Who knows what it costs to send a person to cover the convention, but it certainly costs the price of transportation, room and food. And that is not cheap in St. Louis.
What we pastors received for this expensive effort was a list of resolutions the convention passed and the election results with very little detail. And these arrived several days after they happened. The one clever and entertaining item included was an account of convention happenings using the names of all the press and publications covering this convention. The sparce commentary was not very helpful and seemed rather pessimistic.
However, the Synod sent out press releases via email to any who subscribed so that election results and convention actions arrived at Texas Confessional Lutheran headquarters almost instantaneously. These were then posted on the Texas Confessional Webpage for all to read and rejoice over. It came to light that even the Eastern District President was aware of some emotional comments made on the Webpage by disappointed folks.
Some conservatives were not happy with all that was done, but all in all, they agree that is was a significantly better convention than they had expected going in.
The Texas Confessional Webpage is not responsible for the comments that its readers place there and does not subscribe to all the opinions that are expressed, but it does offer a forum to those who subscribe to the Confessions of the Lutheran Church to express and share what they think and feel about issues of the day. Comments may be sent to Rev. A. J. Loeschman, Rt. 1 Box 237, North Zulch, TX 77872 or preferably sent via email to wd5iqr@txcyber.com. Permission must be granted before any comments will be included on the Webpage.
Conservative Lutherans who desire to keep up with news and views should check the TCL Webpage at regular intervals. It is located at www2.txcyber.com/~wd5iqr/tcl/tcl.html.
Concord also sponsors a Webpage at: www.concordtx.org. This page tells in brief the goals and purposes of "Concord, an Association of Confessional Lutherans," the publishers of this newsletter.
If your Pastor or congregation does not have email or internet capabilities, you laymen should encourage your congregation to supply him with what it takes to get online. Thousands of dollars could be saved on postage if all congregations had email. Time would be saved as well. Not only news can be sent, but funeral notices of fellow pastors and friends which usually arrive by mail from the District office a day of so after the funeral could be sent and received immediately. No waste. No paper, no secretary printing and posting hundreds of letters that won't be timely. Transfers of members can be sent without the long distance charges of faxing. Sixteenth century theology is good, but sixteenth century communications is wasteful, unproductive and unnecessary today.
