February 5, 1999

(Fort Wayne, IN)-Dr. David P. Scaer, professor of systematic theology at Concordia Theological Seminary (CTS), Fort Wayne, has authored a book on Baptism for the Confessional Lutheran Dogmatics series.

The book reflects a lifetime of study on baptism by Dr. Scaer which he calls the church's Foundational Sacrament. Discussions are included on such traditional topics as the biblical support for Baptism and its efficacy in forgiving sin and why sin's original sin requires it. Following Martin Luther, Dr. Scaer traces God's working through water from the Genesis creation account, the flood of Noah's time, the Israelites passing through the Red Sea, Christ's own baptism in the Jordan by John the Baptist, and the multiple references to baptism in the New Testament including the Book of Revelation.

Baptism is available for purchase from the CTS Bookstore for $19.95 plus postage and handling. If you would like to order a copy, call the bookstore at 219-452-2160.
