BIG SPRING

The crowd was a bit smaller, but the enthusiasm remained high for participants in the "Thank You, Lord for the Rain" rally held Monday night at First Baptist Church.

"When we met two weeks ago, we asked God to send rain," said the Rev. Eddie Tubbs, host pastor. "We received up to one inch of rain in some of our farming communities. Now is the time to thank God and ask for his continued blessings."

More than 800 gathered for the first rally on March 1. Mondayšs thanksgiving service attracted closer to 500.

The group joined in spiritual songs, ending with "Showers of Blessing" and "Standing on the Promises."

Farmers Carroll and Joyce Choate, implement dealer Gibson Feagin, and rancher Lorne McDowell were among those who read scripture or offered prayers before the group.

Fellow pastors Ed Williamson and First United Methodist and Carroll Kohl of St. Paul Lutheran joined Tubbs in leading the service.

"We were media darlings a couple of weeks ago," Tubbs said, referring to nationwide coverage of the rain rally. "Tonight itšs just us and God. God made this world. Hešll take care of it and hešll take care of you."

Giving Thanks for the rain is a good thing. Joining in worship with those of a different confession of faith than you is not good. The Synod just dealt with one District President who jointly participated in a wedding and another who authorized a joint service after a tornado. They both apologized for their erroneous actions.)
