Most of the CCEL archive, including the Classic Christian Books, the
World Wide Study Bible, and the Early Church Fathers, has been put on a
CD-ROM, which you can order from the Wheaton College bookstore for $29 +
shipping ($4.50 in the US, $5.50 elsewhere).
This CD-ROM is the result of four years of my work and the work of many
volunteers scanning, typing, formatting, proofreading, and collecting
public domain resources. All share a common goal: to make important,
edifying, classic Christian books and study resources widely available.
You may use and further distribute the public-domain texts on this
CD-ROM in any way you please.
The CD-ROM has 23,000 files, mostly web pages, which you can view with
your own web browser (or install Microsoft Internet Explorer, which is
included on the CD-ROM for Windows NT, Windows 95, Windows 3.1, and
Macintosh.) See the README file from the CD-ROM for more information
about contents and compatibility.
The CD-ROM is a partial mirror of the CCEL web site -- a copy of the web
pages. The CD-ROM will enable you to access the material on the web site
when you don't have an Internet connection (or your Internet connection
is too slow). The proceeds from the sale of this CD-ROM will go toward
the further development of the Christian Classics Ethereal Library and
its distribution overseas -- no one will make a profit from its sale.
In general, the books on the CD-ROM are exact copies of the print
version of the book, possibly with a small number of typographical
errors. However, a few of the books have not been proofread and will
have a larger number of errors. Some of the books also come from public
domain sources and bibliographic information is unavailable and
formatting is varied.
Searching: AltaVista Personal Search Engine 97 is included on the
CD-ROM. It gives you all the power of the Alta Vista search engine for
the CD-ROM and/or your local files. It requires Windows 95 or NT, 16MB
RAM, and 150-200 MB of free disk space to index the CD-ROM. More
information on installation and use is available. You don't need to
install it to use the CD-ROM, though.
Note for overseas users: If you are overseas, you have access to a
computer with a CD-ROM drive, and if the cost of purchasing a CD-ROM
would be a burden, please email me about receiving a free copy. A
limited number of free copies will be available, especially for
locations such as the former Soviet Union, Africa, India, and the like.
Try before you buy! The CD-ROM is mounted on the CCEL server's CD-ROM
drive, and you can try it to see exactly what's included. What you will
see is exactly what you'll see when you use the CD-ROM -- except that
network delays will have been eliminated.
Note that some books that are linked on the CCEL index page or on the
World Wide Study Bible that are not actually on the CCEL web server and
therefore not on the CD-ROM. For example, only four of the Bible
translations in the WWSB are included on the CD-ROM -- KJV, ASV, YLT,
and Darby. Links preceeded by @ are to documents that are not on the
CD-ROM
