We give information on matter concerning the deaf and hearing impaired,
such as the Americans with Disabilities Act regulations (“ADA”). The Council maintains a list of agencies the deaf may be referred to for
important and needed services, such as Texas Rehabilitation Commission, Texas
Department of Human Services, etc. We give information on assistive devices that help the deaf towards
gaining public access, such as telecommunication devices for the deaf, closed
captioned television, visual alarm systems, etc.
We are registered with TCDHH as a vendor in the Specialized
Telecommunications Assistance Program (STAP).
We can help you apply for vouchers for free assistive devices such as
TTY’s or amplified phones, and order the devices for you after you get the
vouchers. A place where deaf, hard of hearing, and hearing people can come and chat
and learn. The only cost is that you
may be asked to answer a phone call or two. Click below to see an example of a letter you could give a doctor or lawyer, informing them you are deaf and require an interpreter. The file is an Adobe Acrobat file. If you don’t have Acrobat viewer, it is FREE to download. |
