North Padre and Galveston Island

This picture was take outside our tent at Padre
Island National Seashore.

One thing we enjoy about living in Texas is being able to go to the ocean.
We live about a 2 1/2 hour drive from Galveston Island and about 4 to North Padre National Seashore.

Padre Island is great because you drive
right out on the beach and you can camp
anywhere.  There is a 50 mile long stretch
with no road or houses, just beach.

We were there 4th of July weekend and were able
to camp with no one in sight.

I caught a small Hammerhead shark in the surf
while we were wading. Nancy also caught a small shark which swam
right back at us after we released it. I'm not sure I liked wading
in the ocean as my legs were constantly bumped by fish. Knowing that 10 foot
Tiger and Hammerhead sharks have been caught off the beach here didn't make me feel any better.

boat at Galveston. The ferries haul you and your car
from one point to the next as part of the public
transportation system. Often dolphins are seen following the boats.
